Hardwood Railway Sleepers

Hardwood railway sleepers are untreated as hardwood is an incredibly dense and durable timber and does not rot readily when in ground contact. Because these railway sleepers are untreated, they are great for vegetable beds in the garden.

Grade 1* or ‘Relay’ Railway Sleepers – These Hardwood Sleepers are the highest grade of sleeper we sell, other than sleepers that are being supplied to go back into the track.

Grade 1/Farmers – Largely pretty straight, with some cracks, but despite being weathered they are in a solid state. This grade of sleeper is our most common sleeper, supplied for landscaping purposes.

Grade 2/Engineering Grade Sleepers – These are perfect if you are wanting to achieve a more rustic appearance in a project, or if you are working to a budget. Despite them being classified as ‘Grade 2 / Engineering grade’ as these sleepers are hardwood, we still expect them to have longevity.
